Reverse Aging & Build Immunity with Skin Brushing

Reverse Aging Build Immunity with Skin Brushing
SHARE
When we think of how to obtain healthy skin, most of us pay attention only to our face— cleansing, exfoliating and moisturizing in the hope of staving off wrinkles and other effects of time and the elements.

In fact, because skin is our body's largest organ, we need to give our entire body some tender loving care to get that healthy glow.

Consider adding dry brushing to your morning beauty skincare regimen. An ancient Ayurvedic health practice, dry skin brushing is one of the simplest ways to boost immunity, flush lymphatic waste and create glowing skin.

The benefits of dry skin brushing go way beyond skin deep. Brushing the skin helps the detoxification process by moving lymph, facilitating removal of metabolic waste and improving immunity. Brushing also increases circulation, can reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Because the skin is correlated to the lungs, brushing can also ease the symptoms of asthma, bronchitis and other respiratory ailments. Plus, skin brushing just feels so good!

People who started skin brushing reported feeling both energized and relaxed at the same time, smoother, softer skin and more even skin tone, and even said they were sleeping more soundly.

Here's an easy and soothing brushing technique that you can integrate into your health, and even your meditation, practice!

Invest in a high-quality natural bristle brush. You can find one for less than $20. The bristles should feel stiff but not so rough that it tears your skin. Choose a long-handled brush for your back and other out-of-reach spots.

Dry skin brushing should be done at least once daily for best results.Try incorporating it into your morning Dahn Yoga practice or before showering and getting ready for your day. Brushing is best on warm, dry skin.

When brushing, always brush toward your heart, which is best for circulation and your lymphatic system.

Brush your entire body beginning with the soles of your feet. Lightly stroke the soles of your feet then the tops of your feet. Work your way up the front of your legs. the back of your legs, your inner thighs, with long, light strokes. Pressure should be light enough that you don't cause any abrasions to your skin, but strong enough to produce a pleasant, tingly sensation, indicating good circulation.

Continue on to your stomach, chest, back, and arms. Avoid brushing your face but you can gently stroke upwards your neck. Also avoid your genitals and any areas with irritations or abrasions (including varicose veins).

You can do brushing sitting or lying down and you can brush for as long or as little time as you wish. 20-minutes of brushing is the average time it takes to give yourself a tingling, toning whole body experience.

Make sure to also drink plenty of water after a brushing session. Some people also benefit from drinking an ounce of diluted apple cider vinegar, before and after a brushing session, to facilitate lymphatic drainage. Give it a try and see for yourself!

Remember to also eat a skin healthy diet, get plenty of rest and do immune boosting and stress busting exercises such as Solar Body Method to keep your healing system, and your skin, in tip-top shape.

Try introducing dry skin brushing into your healthy lifestyle today!
