The Final Keys to Operating Your Brain

The Final Keys to Operating Your Brain
SHARE
Making your life your own can be confusing if you don’t have a roadmap. Because our brain is the means by which we navigate our world and manage our life, that roadmap is equivalent to directions for managing our brain. Just as a computer has an operating system, I think our brain has an operating system, which I’ve dubbed the Brain Operating System or BOS. In the past, I wrote about three principles you need to know about for running your BOS. Recently, however, I realized that two more principles are needed.

The five principles of your Brain Operating System are:
  1. 1. Wake up and pay attention!
  2. 2. Good news makes a good brain.
  3. 3. If you choose it, it will happen.
  4. 4. Become the master of time and space.
  5. 5. Design your circumstances.

When you’re caught up in your daily life and get absorbed in your emotions and the things, people, and events around you, it can be easy to forget how much influence you have over your time, your space, or your environment. Although you make a schedule, write appointments in your calendar, or clean your house, you can easily lose track of time and space if you’re having an exciting conversation, or, for example, you fall madly in love.

Being caught up by time and space or your circumstances means you are not managing them; they are managing you. Mastering time and space and designing your environment, however, requires more than making a plan, being on time, getting up earlier in the morning, or clearing out your clutter, although these techniques are important. When you are caught up in time and space, you have lost yourself; you have moved away from your center. To master time and space and design your environment, you need to return to your center.

Emotions and selfish desires, even basic desires such as the need for security, recognition, and control, hamper or interfere with the way you see things. They skew your vision to match what you are craving, which are simply temporary phenomena that will soon pass into insignificance. Clouded by them, you can’t see your true essence at your core and the true purpose of your life, which I believe everyone has. As a result, you look outside of yourself for happiness or love, and get frustrated if your environment doesn’t provide them.

You can clear your vision with meditation methods such as breathing, Plate Balancing Exercise, Toe Tapping, and Brain Wave Vibration, which not only calm and open your mind, but help you get in tune with your natural rhythm. That rhythm is the rhythm of life itself. We often lose it when we are caught up our thoughts, emotions, and activities, and when we pay too much attention outside of ourselves. Our natural rhythm is the rhythm of our true essence at our center.

When you perceive the world from your center and move with your natural rhythm, you can feel and see time and space clearly. You can see all the colors of life as they are, and you will sense how malleable they are to your awareness and your choices. Seeing your essence, you recognize that it is love and happiness. Once you see that you already have what you really need, your circumstances have no real power over you. That realization gives you the freedom, courage, and ability to choose what you want. That’s when you can master time and space, and that’s when you can design your environment, like a painter waiving a brush across a blank canvas.

The life purpose you perceive from your center, which I’ve also called your zero point, can guide your life instead of the desires of your small self. Your purpose is a destination for your life. Traveling toward that destination firmly rooted at your center will make you genuinely happy even in the midst of challenges and struggles. Having a destination also gives you a measuring stick with which to evaluate your environment and choose which aspects of it get you closer to your destination and which aspects take you further away.

Your environment is more than the physical objects and space around you. It includes your thoughts, relationships, circumstances, and health. Choosing how to perceive and handle your environment is how you design it. You may not be able to control everything around you directly, but by choosing your thoughts and reactions, you can keep moving toward your ultimate goal, and gradually your external environment will begin to match the deepest wish of your essential self.
