Suggestions for further practice

Nature Meditation with Half Lotus Posture

You will need to review the content of these videos many times to be sure you are performing them correctly, so be sure to return to them often. Even the “easy” forms should be reviewed because the exact positions are important for energy flow. If possible, seek out an instructor to help you fine-tune your positions and movements. With time, you should be able to memorize the correct postures and perform them without much thought.

Once you are beyond memorizing and mastering postures, focus more on just the pure energy. You should be able to follow the flow of energy like a leaf floating on a stream. Try to let go of your thinking mind and let the energy do the work. This will greatly expand your sense of energy, to the point that you no longer feel the boundaries of your own body; you and the universe become one. As you do this, you become one with universal source energy, and you can feel the reality of your own enlightenment.

Studying other ways of using energy will help your DahnMuDo practice, too. Yoga practice is a very good compliment to DahnMuDo study because it continually opens, stretches, and centers the body. Daily meditation of some sort, even if only for a few minutes, is also recommended because of its ability to calm and focus your mind. You might want to prepare yourself for daily DahnMuDo training with a few yoga stretches and a short meditation session. This should deepen your practice, increasing the level of energy you feel.

Furthermore, take your practice out with you into the world and into your daily life. The same sense of vibrancy and flow should follow you wherever you go. See if you can keep that same level of grace in everything you do, even when something seems mundane. For example, you can wash the dishes in a meditative way, being fully aware of your own mind and attentive to how you proceed through the required actions.

It’s even more important to maintain this sense in your relationships with others, although this can be difficult to do consistently. You must recognize that they, too, are an expression of energy and that you can “dance” with them as you do with energy. If they frustrate you, will you block yourself off from them? Will you keep your energy to yourself, or will you share it unconditionally? These kinds of choices are like an extension of DahnMuDo practice.

Finally, apply DahnMuDo to the achievement of goals in your life. DahnMuDo is the “art of self-mastery,” but learning the postures alone will not get you to that point. Rather, they are simply meant to inform you how to conduct your life with wisdom. Accomplishing goals gives you the opportunity to stretch yourself beyond your small self and to encounter and exceed your own limitations. You have limitless potential, so chose something worthy and move resolutely, with the assistance of cosmic energy, toward that goal.
