This year, I have been staying at Earth Village in Kerikeri, New Zealand. Earth Village is where I am preparing to set up a residential school, a place where people can experience self-reliance and an environmentally friendly lifestyle.

With all New Zealand in pandemic lockdown, I’ve also been sheltering in place. I love solitude and need time alone, but when people suddenly stopped coming to Earth Village, I really missed them.

My heart has been heavy with concern over how long the pandemic will last, where and how far the anxiety and fear sweeping the globe will drive us, and how the pandemic will change our lives and the earth. To find comfort, I have turned to a familiar friend—nature.

Regaining Balance and Harmony

As I walk the woodland paths of Earth Village drinking in the fresh morning air and sit in a ravine listening to the flowing water and to the sounds of my own breathing, my body achieves balance, and my mind’s eye clears and expands.

Even amid dramatic change, I feel the life force that brings balance and harmony to all things filling me, filling the universe. I feel that this power has never left us, even for an instant.

The great life force of nature is not only with us in the moments when we’re overflowing with vigor and vitality. Even when unstoppable chaos sweeps the world, even when we are panicking, even when our lives hang in the balance, that power is with us.

The Basis of True Wellness

We human beings are a part of nature, and nature has the power to bestow sustainability and stability on all things, enabling the whole to maintain harmony and balance. We can keep our systems in balance and live healthy lives when we follow the energy principles of nature and vividly feel the power of the great life force of nature flowing unimpeded through our bodies and connecting all things in creation.

That life force is like a wonderful inner physician working to keep us healthy. It's expressed as the immunity and natural healing power built into our bodies and brains. The principles for enhancing this power are not much different than the general principles for good health: taking care of basics such as eating well and sleeping well and maintaining life’s balance and rhythm will strengthen your immune system. Our immunity is primarily determined by how we manage our bodies and minds on a day-to-day basis and build long-term habits that make our bodies and minds strong.

About My New Book Water Up Fire Down

Nature’s life force also establishes a secure center inside that keeps us from collapsing even through countless challenges and trials, ultimately enabling us to adapt and show resilience. While life is a series of challenges and changes, a person with a secure center can accept transitions, learning and growing through them, unafraid.

To help people weather the current storms by re-establishing their connection to nature and maintaining the harmony of the life force within them, I wrote a book called Water Up Fire Down: An Energy Principle for Creating Calmness, Clarity, and a Lifetime of Health. With this book, I hope to enable people to protect their own health and the health of the planet and to apply in their lives the fundamental principles of energy.

In the next few blog posts, I will share some key ideas from the book with you.
